The most seemingly insignificant choice can get entangled in a web of history, pre-disposition and circumstance.
How does a person regain their self and motivation to choose Door A and not Door B? Is time chronological or
experienced in random, connected and unconnected ways polluted by ineffective memory? How can thoughts be
articulated in a physical form? What can be done to collect memories and sequences of events and thoughts?
How can a deeper understanding of the origin and pedigree of current thoughts be gained?
This is the most complex theme. Therefore, its execution needed to be deferential and subversive.
Whenever you are stuck, make a list: Compilation of lists and charts. The choice to make a particular list is non-
deterministic and at times random. Lists comprising lines of prose, poetry, song lyrics, places, laws and names.
The lists are an end in themselves as well as raw material for word and thought association- streams of
consciousness.
Charting or intellectual cartography, applies structured drawing rules to mind maps, lists and thought or word
association. The textual “ground” is the point of departure for the drawing; the text is the object, the drawing is
the representation of the object.
The lines are no more than real or spurious connections between the texts. It is representation devoid of
significance or importance other than for its own existence. The lines are rendered as to reference Gothic and
Catalan Modernismic architecture. Some colour “ornamentation” can be applied to the drawing. Framing of the
drawing suggests two contradictory elements: the enclosure of the image in order to delineate it; and the
continuation of the image in space.
