This exhibition proposal is for work arising from my project Knee Play 1.
Over the last two years I have been working on a project looking at ways to slow things down within our dynamic and all pervasive data hungry culture. An opportunity to take a deep breath and think. To use it as a mirror or a window into my intentionality.
The work is in response to the solfege Knee Play 1 song from the opera Einstein on the Beach. The initial objective is to narrow down the volume and density of data. The limited information can then open to examination and meditation. It can be dissected and progressively developed into alternative or aligned narratives. Time is given to apply language, construction, signs, calculations, formulae, memories, ideas and random thoughts within the loose framework.
The framework is formed by way of deconstruction of the song and through drawings, sometimes compiled into books, stop-motion time-based media, installation and extensive use of language and text. Through this work in progress a body of pieces is generated.
To date I have had two solo displays of this work. Firstly at the MA Show where I displayed a 10 x 1.5 metre ink drawing on paper. Secondly, an installation at GASP which included several drawings, glass pieces and time based media which provided the centre piece for a series of salons.
The final curation and the choice of pieces of work from the project should be made in response to the site and the specific aims of the display.
